How We Help
If you plan to marry or enter into a civil partnership in the United Kingdom but do not intend to settle there afterwards, the application needs to present both your relationship and the purpose of the visit clearly. Lawyers for Expats Thailand prepares and manages Marriage Visitor visa applications for Thai citizens from preparation and submission through to the decision.
How We Help
A Marriage Visitor application is prepared around your relationship and travel plans, not a template. Here is what happens from the first call through to the decision.
We start by understanding your relationship, why you want to marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK, your intended travel dates and your plans to leave the UK after the visit.
We identify the relationship, marriage-plan, financial, accommodation and other supporting evidence relevant to the application.
We prepare the application and supporting documentation, checking that the purpose of the visit, relationship information and travel plans are presented consistently.
We manage the application from submission through to the decision, assisting with the process and further information requests where appropriate. The UK immigration authority makes the final decision, not Lawyers for Expats Thailand.
What We Do For Our Clients
A Marriage Visitor application brings together the relationship, the marriage or civil partnership plans and the evidence showing you will leave the UK after the visit. Here is the actual scope of what our team handles.
This visa is for someone travelling to the UK specifically to marry, enter into a civil partnership or give notice, while intending to leave the UK after the visit. Relevant circumstances can include relationship history, the reason for holding the marriage or civil partnership in the UK, the intended travel period, intended ceremony arrangements, accommodation during the visit, circumstances in Thailand, and plans after the ceremony.
Can I use a Marriage Visitor Visa if I plan to stay in the UK after the wedding?
No. The Marriage Visitor route is intended for people who plan to marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK and then leave after the visit. If the intention is to remain in the UK with a qualifying partner after marriage, a different family visa route may be appropriate.
What is the difference between a Marriage Visitor Visa and a fiancé or fiancée visa?
A Marriage Visitor Visa is for somebody coming to the UK to marry or enter into a civil partnership and then leave the UK after the visit. A fiancé or fiancée family visa is for a qualifying couple intending to marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK and continue their family immigration route there.
We help organise evidence appropriate to the couple's relationship and circumstances. Depending on the case this may involve evidence of the relationship, time spent together, travel history, communications where relevant, photographs where relevant, previous marriage or civil partnership evidence where necessary, and other supporting material appropriate to the couple.
The application needs to show a genuine intention to marry, form a civil partnership or give notice while in the UK. Depending on the circumstances, relevant evidence may relate to the planned ceremony, contact with a register office or venue, arrangements already made, the timing of the visit, and other genuine preparation for the marriage or civil partnership.
Do we need to have every part of the wedding booked before applying?
Not every couple will have identical arrangements. The application should present genuine evidence of the intention to marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK, using the arrangements and supporting evidence that actually exist.
We help organise evidence showing how the visit will be funded and where the applicant will stay. Relevant evidence may involve the applicant's own financial circumstances, support from a partner or another person where applicable, accommodation arrangements, expected costs of the visit, and circumstances showing how the trip will be supported.
Can my partner in the UK pay for my visit and wedding costs?
A visit may be supported by another person where the applicable visitor requirements are met. The application should explain who is providing the support, the relationship between the parties and the evidence showing that the stated support is genuine and available.
Thai-language documents relied upon in the application may require an appropriate English translation, which we identify during preparation. Where relevant, evidence relating to previous marriages or civil partnerships may also form part of the application.
Our work includes preparing the application, checking names and dates, checking the relationship chronology, checking consistency between the marriage plans and travel plans, organising the supporting evidence and preparing for submission. Applicants also go through an identity and biometric stage. We manage the case through to the decision and help respond to further-information requests where appropriate.
Who decides whether the Marriage Visitor visa is granted?
The decision is made by the relevant UK immigration authority. Lawyers for Expats Thailand prepares and manages the application but does not control or guarantee the outcome.
