How We Help
When a Thai citizen is travelling to Europe to spend time with family, the visa application needs to explain the family relationship, purpose of the visit and practical arrangements clearly. Lawyers for Expats Thailand prepares and manages Schengen family-visit visa applications, bringing the invitation, accommodation, financial and supporting evidence together from preparation and submission through to the decision.
How We Help
A Schengen family-visit application is prepared around your family circumstances and travel plans, not a template. Here is what happens from the first call through to the decision.
We start by understanding who you are visiting, where they live, the family relationship involved, how long you plan to stay, where you will stay and how the visit will be funded.
We identify and organise the family-relationship, invitation, accommodation, financial, travel and Thai supporting evidence relevant to the application.
We prepare the application and supporting documents so the family relationship, purpose of travel, accommodation and financial arrangements are explained consistently.
We manage the application from submission through to the decision, assisting with the process and additional-document requests where appropriate. The competent Schengen authority makes the visa decision, not Lawyers for Expats Thailand.
What We Do For Our Clients
A family-visit application brings together the relationship, the invitation and the practical arrangements for the trip. Here is the actual scope of what our team handles.
A family visit should be prepared around the genuine family circumstances. Relevant circumstances can include who the applicant is visiting, the nature of the family relationship, where the family member lives, the purpose of the visit, the proposed length of stay, accommodation, who is paying for the trip, and the applicant's circumstances in Thailand.
Which family members can I visit with a Schengen visa?
A short-stay Schengen visa can be used for genuine private or family visits where the applicable requirements are met. The evidence needed depends on who is being visited, the relationship involved and the requirements of the Schengen state handling the application.
Where the family relationship forms part of the purpose of travel, we help organise evidence appropriate to that relationship. Depending on circumstances this may involve birth certificates, marriage or civil-status documents, household or family records where relevant, evidence of previous contact or visits, and other documents demonstrating the relationship. Thai-language documents may require appropriate translation depending on the competent authority's requirements.
Do I need official documents proving the family relationship?
Evidence of the family relationship may be required where it forms part of the purpose of the visit. The appropriate documents depend on the relationship and the requirements applied to the particular application, so we identify what evidence is relevant before preparing the file.
Family visits commonly involve evidence from the person being visited. Depending on the Schengen state and circumstances this may include invitation information, host identity, host address, residence or status evidence where relevant, the length and purpose of the visit, accommodation arrangements, and destination-specific invitation, sponsorship or guarantee forms where required — current Schengen practice is not uniform on invitation forms, and some states use prescribed or certified forms, so we confirm what applies before preparing the application.
The application needs to show how the visit will be funded and where the applicant will stay. Depending on circumstances this may involve the applicant's own funds, support from the family member being visited, accommodation provided by family, host financial evidence where applicable, travel costs, and other evidence explaining how the visit will be supported.
Can my family member in Europe pay for my visit?
A family member may be able to provide financial or accommodation support depending on the circumstances and the requirements of the Schengen state handling the application. Where support is being provided, we organise the evidence so the relationship, nature of the support and practical arrangements are explained clearly.
Even where the purpose of travel is to visit family, the application still needs to present the Thai applicant's own circumstances. Depending on the applicant this may include employment, business or self-employment, finances, family responsibilities, previous travel, ongoing commitments, other circumstances in Thailand, and the intention to comply with the temporary nature of the visit.
Our work includes preparing the application, checking family details, checking names and dates, organising relationship evidence, invitation and host documents, accommodation, funding, travel arrangements and Thai supporting documents, before preparing for submission. Applicants also go through a biometric stage where applicable. We manage the application through to the decision and assist with additional information requests where appropriate.
Who decides whether my Schengen family-visit visa is approved?
The decision is made by the competent authority of the Schengen state handling the application. Lawyers for Expats Thailand prepares and manages the application but does not control or guarantee the outcome.
